چکیده

We present an approach to qualitative spatial reasoning which is based on directional orientation information as available through perceptual processes. Qualitative orientations in 2-dimensional space are given by the relation between a point and a vector. The paper presents our basic iconic notation for spatial orientation relations which exploits the spatial structure of the domain and explores a variety of ways in which these relations can be manipulated and combined for spatial reasoning.

تحلیل فضایی در مطالعات جغرافیایی

Spatial analysis as the main approach of geography was reviewed and searched through its historical development. The results of this exploratory research showed that this approach was born after the Second World War due to the overall interest of geographers to develop universal theories and laws. The advocators of this field believed that the old regional geography was not able to develop ...

Image-Schemata-Based Spatial Inferences: The Container-Surface Algebra

Algebras over spatial relations have become an important aspect of spatial reasoning for retrieving and handling large and complex spatial data sets. While such spatial relations play a fundamental role in specifying constraints in a spatial query language, there has been little concern as to whether existing spatial-relation algebras are cognitively plausible. In order to construct more intuit...

The cognitive adequacy of Allen's interval calculus for qualitative spatial representation and reasoning

Qualitative spatial reasoning (QSR) is often claimed to be cognitively more plausible than conventional numerical approaches to spatial reasoning, because it copes with the indeterminacy of spatial data and allows inferences based on incomplete spatial knowledge. The paper reports experimental results concerning the cognitive adequacy of an important approach used in QSR, namely the spatial int...

Combining a logical and an analogical framework for route generation and description

Route generation is an ideal subject for studying the interactions of spatial and temporal reasoning in a practical setting. Starting from a cognitive study of pedestrian route descriptions in urban environments generated by human subjects, we identified the main requirements for a knowledgebased-system that would generate and describe routes in a cognitively plausible way. In this paper we pre...

مدل‌سازی روابط توپولوژیک سه بعدی فازی در محیط GIS

Nowadays, geospatial information systems (GIS) are widely used to solve different spatial problems based on various types of fundamental data: spatial, temporal, attribute and topological relations. Topological relations are the most important part of GIS which distinguish it from the other kinds of information technologies. One of the important mechanisms for representing topological relations...
